Bali’s rich history of SACRED CEREMONY and deep mystic SPIRITUAL BELIEFS have attracted thousands over the years.
Ubud translates as “Medicine”
For centuries people have been traveling to Ubud from all over Bali seeking out medicine and to receive healing from doctors and blessings from priests and still to this day people are magnetically drawn to this healing vortex.
Imagine soaking up the transformative healing vibes for the week as we dive deep into Movement as a medicinal practice through the embodied daily practices of yoga, kriyas, movement meditations, introspective journalling and self-enquiry.
Plus an optional teacher training for people who want to go deeper into the movement experience, mouth watering nourishing food and a sunrise hiking trip!
The island of Bali is unique in so many ways, from the vast open green landscapes of rice fields to the barren active volcanoes, beautiful white and black sandy beaches, waterfalls, breathtaking sun rises and sun sets and the rich Hindu culture that is witnessed daily.
In the 8th century a Buddhist priest from Java made a pilgrimage to Ubud and after meditating where two rivers meet declared that place holy and a temple was built in that very spot which still exists today.
Be prepared to sparkle!
The humidity in Bali means there is no choice but to enjoy the heat penetrating and gently massaging your muscles during our daily yoga practices, leaving your skin sparkling with sweat and feeling extra soft from this daily detox.
Every day, you’ll witness beautiful aspects of Balinese culture, including offerings of flowers, sweets and incense laid out on the walkways, ceremonies flooding the streets with the sounds of music and chanting filling the air. Your dream of experiencing the REAL Bali really is within your reach!
Receive a nurturing welcome massage plus another blissful spa treatment of your choice as part of your retreat package! This may be hot stone or aromatherapy massage, Ayurvedic treatments, a deeply relaxing flower bath plus and wide range of other therapies to relieve and dissolve any tension from your journey to be with us in beautiful Bali.
With rice terraces, ancient water temples, beaches and active volcanoes the island of the Gods is on everyone’s bucket list and must be explored at least once in your life time…
Our retreat centre serves 100% organic food with your taste buds as the top priority!
The choices are endless and include many options such as gluten free, dairy free, raw and vegan. Brunch and dinner is included in your package and outside of this you can order straight from the menu or there is an abundance of local cafes and restaurants walking distance away. We will provide you with a very comprehensive list of our all time favorite places to eat!
Bali’s fertile soil really does produce some of the most exquisite, drool worthy tropical fruits and vegetables you will ever taste. Our chef is highly trained in a diverse range of culinary delights!
Each meal will consist of colourful fresh salads with edible flowers picked from the surrounding gardens, lovingly prepared vegetables with a selection of condiments, tempeh, tofu, rice, noodles, traditional Indonesian dishes and a western style dish if you are feeling the need for something more familiar.
There is always plenty to go round but make sure you leave room for desert, which will leave you wondering how the dairy free chocolate cheese cake that melts like velvet in your mouth can actually be healthy for you!
Regardless of your dietary requirements we are positive that at the end of each meal your belly completely satisfied!
Yoga, Movement & Meditation
Our morning practices are more dynamic with the intention of energizing and waking up the body and our evening practices are more restorative and meditative with lots of reflection and witnessing the relationship between the body, the mind and the breath.
We start and end each day gathering together in the yoga shala. Setting intentions, writing, breathing and moving as one.
The style of yoga we will be practicing is Prana Vinyasa cultivated by Delamay’s long time teacher, mentor and friend Shiva Rea. It is a very fluid form of Vinyasa flow with an emphasis on energetic alignment, embodiment and with the use of Kramas / different stages of asanas there is something for everyone. The pace is slow and deeply mindful.
Along with the daily yoga, movement and meditation practices Delamay will be offering a optional 36 hour Movement Medicine Teacher Training module. This is a experiential exploration into Movement as a Medicinal practice with the theme movement as non verbal language. It is a journey into self-enquiry with a variety of kriyas and movement pathways connected to the Elements, the Vayus and the Chakras plus hands on assists and a choreographed sequence to make your own during the week.
Movement Medicine Teacher Training
Dive even deeper into your individual movement experience with our Movement As Non Verbal Communication optional teacher training!
- Hands on enhancements verses hands on assists: The difference between mindfully deepening someones experience in a pose compared to lovingly holding them in a safe space.
- Organic sequencing: A sequencing methodology which honors and supports the natural ebb and flow of the body regardless of flexibility and strength.
- Breath initiated movement: Moving and breathing as one along the pathways of the Vayus, the chakras and the elements.
- The art of touch: Learn how to effectively enter and exit someones practice space so not to disturb their practice.
- Witnessing body language: Working in partners, being blindfolded and activating the other sensors!
This training is suitable for all students and teachers of yoga, dance and other embodied practices. You will also receive a Movement Medicine manual, 36 hours of Continuing Education towards your Yoga Alliance certificate, a certificate of attendance upon completing the course work plus we will see a Balinese dance performance! The exchange for this unique training is only $300USD.
Your Retreat Package Activities
A trip to Bali would not be complete without experiencing a variety of cultural events!
We have included our favourite activities in your retreat package and can recommended rice field walks, bike riding tours and other local sights to visit in your free time.
Sunrise hike up Mt Batur
Mt Batur is an active volcano and according to Hindu belief is one of the most sacred mountains in Bali and stands at 1717m above sea level. You will need to wear supportive hiking shoes plus a warm jacket and layers which can be easily removed for the cool morning mountain air. The hike one way takes about 2 hours for people who have a moderate level of fitness.
At the top, Mt Batur offers spectacular landscape views of the Kintamani district. Along with picturesque nature of this unique area, there are six ancient villages around the cauldron of Lake Batur. Lake Batur is the biggest lake in Bali and serves as a irrigation source to all farmers.
Our retreat coincides with Nyepi, the Balinese new year!
Nyepi is a very auspicious time to be in Bali because it symbolizes the ending of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. We have a selection of activities to keep you busy during this day of silence and introspection. Nyepi is a Hindu holiday but non-Hindu’s are not exempt from the restrictions while in Bali. We are free to do as we wish inside the retreat centre but no one is allowed in public areas.
After a procession through the streets with music, fire torches and effigies of oggoh oggoh’s, the following day there is a blanket of silence covering the entire island. Along with our daily yoga practices there will be vipasana meditation, mandala making workshop, creative writing and journaling and other activities to to keep you busy throughout the day.
A water blessing with High priestess Ida Resi is an experience to have at least once in a life time!
As the sound of the bell rings out across the family compound an air of meditative quietude descends and the ceremony begins.
We take turns and stand in small groups in front of the alter where she is seated, close enough to hear her instructions and chanting as the water blessing begins. The overall encounter with High priestess Ida Resi is profound and connects you directly with Bali’s deep spiritual history and dedication to such sacred ceremony.
Being Bali we can never really know what to expect, in the past we have had the honour of receiving a guided meditation as a group and hearing her talk about her philosophy towards life.
She opens her arms and ceremonies to all, young, old, sick, healthy, the curious, the skeptic, regardless of race, age, religious belief or intention.
